Start by dividing an irregular job into measurable shapes, subtracting true exclusions, and retaining the net quantity. Show this base value before adding any allowance.

An allowance may cover cuts, breakage, defects, matching, setup loss, or uncertainty. These are different causes, so one default percentage cannot be correct for every material and layout.

A transparent workflow

For a net area of 46 m² and a justified 8% allowance, the adjusted requirement is 49.68 m². If each package covers 2.2 m², divide 49.68 by 2.2 and round up to 23 packages.

Rounding the area first or adding a package before applying the allowance can distort the result.
