Understand the result
What the Deck Board Layout is for
Balance edge-board widths to avoid a narrow final rip, including a single-row condition.
These workflows translate a measured floor, ceiling, or deck field into repeated members, boards, sheets, gaps, and cut conditions.

The relationship
The formula used here
Rows=ceil((width+gap)/(face+gap)). For two or more rows, residual width is shared by first and last boards; one row is ripped to the full available width.
Apply this relationship only after confirming that the measurements, product basis, allowances, and units describe the same project condition.
Field reading
Use the result as a checked next step
1. Measure the real work
Use field dimensions, approved drawings, and actual product or stock information.
2. Reconcile the result
Keep support lines, edge conditions, actual product dimensions, orientation, gaps, and stock lengths explicit before rounding a purchasing quantity.
3. Keep the boundary clear
It does not select joists, beams, ledgers, hangers, decking, guards, connections, spans, or structural details.
