Calculation method
How the trimmed and winsorized mean calculator works
Trim k ordered values per tail for the trimmed mean; replace those tails with the nearest retained values for the Winsorized mean.
Robust means reduce tail influence, but the trim level must be chosen from the analysis plan rather than tuned to obtain a desired result.

With 10 values and a 10% trim, one value is removed from each tail before the trimmed mean is calculated.

Model and design
The number trimmed per tail is floor(n×percentage/100); the selected percentage must leave at least one observation.
Numerical scope
Inputs use double-precision numerical methods with guarded domains. Datasets accept up to 10,000 finite plain-decimal values. Extremely large parameters or probabilities deep in a numerical tail may require specialist statistical software.
Interpretation
Robust means reduce tail influence, but the trim level must be chosen from the analysis plan rather than tuned to obtain a desired result.
Decision boundary
The calculator does not validate how data were collected, diagnose dependence or bias, choose a scientifically meaningful effect, or replace review by a qualified statistician for consequential research, medical, regulatory, safety, or policy decisions.
