Quick guide

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter a decimal exactly as you want it inspected.
  2. Read each digit, place, power, and signed contribution.
  3. Add the contributions to reconstruct the input.

Calculation method

Every position is a power of ten

Positions left of the decimal marker use non-negative powers; positions right of it use negative powers. For a negative number, each nonzero contribution carries the sign.

Worked example

Place value in 304.052

The 3 contributes 300, the 4 contributes 4, the 5 contributes 0.05, and the 2 contributes 0.002.

304.052 = 3×10² + 4×10⁰ + 5×10⁻² + 2×10⁻³

Supported inputs

Readable table

The page accepts at most 60 written digits so every row remains inspectable.

Exact decimal input

Finite decimals use integer-scaled arithmetic, with no binary floating-point conversion.
