Calculation method
Normalize the leading digit
The decimal marker is positioned so the mantissa magnitude is at least 1 and below 10. The number of positions moved is the exponent.
Worked example
A small decimal
Moving the decimal point three places right turns 0.00452 into 4.52, so the compensating power is −3.
0.00452 = 4.52 × 10⁻³

Input boundary
Unless stated otherwise, use at most 200 digits total and 100 digits after the decimal marker.
Zero
