Quick guide
How to use this calculator
- Enter the dividend.
- Enter a nonzero divisor.
- Read the exact fraction and its truthful decimal representation or preview.
Calculation method
Division creates an exact rational value
Both decimals are converted to integers with powers of ten, then their ratio is reduced by the greatest common divisor.
The reduced fraction is exact. A decimal display is marked as truncated when its complete expansion does not fit within the preview limit.
Worked example
Divide 7.5 by 2
The decimal ratio reduces to 15/4 and terminates at 3.75.
7.5 ÷ 2 = 15/4 = 3.75
