Calculation method
Absolute change is a subtraction
The signed change is final value minus initial value. A positive result is an increase, a negative result is a decrease, and zero means no change.
The magnitude removes the sign so it describes the size of the change. This calculator does not divide by the initial value, so it is not a percentage-change calculator.
Worked example
A value moves from 125 to 143.5
Subtract the initial value from the final value. The positive sign shows an increase, and its magnitude is 18.5.
143.5 − 125 = 18.5
