Calculation method
How the premature baby corrected age calculator works
Chronological age = reference date − birth date; corrected age = reference date − estimated due date; days early = estimated due date − birth date.
Corrected age helps frame early developmental expectations for babies born prematurely. It does not determine whether an individual child is developing typically.
Worked example
Premature Baby Corrected Age example
At 16 weeks chronological age, a baby born 8 weeks before the estimated due date has a corrected age of about 8 weeks.
Chronological age = reference date − birth date; corrected age = reference date − estimated due date; days early = estimated due date − birth date.

Supported purpose
Use dates supplied by the baby's clinical record. The AAP describes corrected-age use during the first two years, but an individual care team may use different follow-up conventions. Vaccination timing and medical decisions are excluded.
Measurement quality
The output is only as reliable as the entered measurement, device, timing, units, and applicable reference population. Recheck unexpected values against the original record.
