Calculation method
How the body composition change calculator works
At each time point, fat mass = weight × body-fat percentage and fat-free mass = weight - fat mass; later values minus starting values give component changes.
The two component changes always reconcile to total weight change, but measurement noise can appear as apparent fat or fat-free mass change.
Worked example
Body Composition Change example
From 80 units at 25% to 76 units at 20%, estimated fat mass changes by -4.8 units and fat-free mass by +0.8 units.
At each time point, fat mass = weight × body-fat percentage and fat-free mass = weight - fat mass; later values minus starting values give component changes.

Supported purpose
Use the same weight unit, body-fat method, device, hydration state, and comparable conditions. The result does not prove tissue change or distinguish muscle, organs, bone, water, and glycogen within fat-free mass.
Measurement quality
The output is only as reliable as the entered measurement, device, timing, units, and applicable reference population. Recheck unexpected values against the original record.
