What is Temperature?

Temperature scales attach different numbers to the same physical state. An absolute temperature needs an offset as well as a scale factor, while a temperature difference needs only the scale factor.

This calculator converts thermodynamic temperature while preserving the same measured quantity.

Use this relationship to translate a reading or observed calibration offset without confusing a temperature with a temperature change.

The entered thermodynamic temperature is converted once to the canonical kelvin basis and then from that basis to the selected output unit.

Absolute zero is 0 K, −273.15 °C, −459.67 °F, and 0 °R; results below absolute zero are rejected.
