Quick guide
How to use this calculator
- Enter the measurements or named convention from the real task rather than converting intermediate values separately.
- Check every selected unit, regional convention, denominator, density, ratio, scale, or purchasing increment before using the result.
- Use the reconciled companion outputs to verify the result and retain the stated limitations for purchasing, cooking, sizing, or production decisions.
Calculation method
How the fabric weight calculator works
Compare fabric specifications and estimate material mass for a known rectangular piece.
Convert areal density to g/m² and dimensions to metres; estimated mass = density × rectangular area.
Worked example
Fabric Weight example
A 2 m × 1.5 m piece at 200 GSM has 3 m² area and an estimated mass of 600 g.
Convert areal density to g/m² and dimensions to metres; estimated mass = density × rectangular area.

Precision and limits
Workflow boundary
Areal density is not total roll weight or thickness. Coatings, moisture, selvage, cutting loss, and specification tolerance are excluded.
Precision
Calculations retain full working precision and round only for display. The result cannot be more accurate than the entered measurement, selected standard, material data, or practical process.
Category ownership
This calculator handles a neutral measurement, conversion, sizing, packaging, printing, or household workflow. It does not interpret health status, clinical measurements, child growth, body composition, diagnosis, treatment, or medical risk.
Privacy
