Reference choice remains substantive
Maximum and separate-reference normalization answer different bookkeeping questions.
No population mean
Rows have no population-frequency weights; use the dedicated mean-fitness workflow when weights are known.
No selection forecast
Relative components do not by themselves model inheritance, dominance, drift or future frequency.
Numerical support
Use 2–20 rows with components from zero through 10¹² and a positive normalization reference. Positive derived ratios must remain representable; otherwise an explicit range message asks for equivalent rescaling.
